12 time Pro Bowl Linebacker Junior Seau has been found dead at his home with a reported self-inflicted gunshot wound to his chest.

The news comes as a massive shock, given the personality and extrovert nature of the former Chargers, Dolphins and Patriots No.55

Chargers President Dean Spanos said in a statement. “This is just such a tragic loss. One of the worst things I could ever imagine.”

After being selected as the 1990 5th overall draft pick, The Tasmanian Devil would go on to spend 13 seasons in San Diego, losing Superbowl XXIX 26-49 to the San Francisco 49ers.

He would finish his career at the New England Patriots via a spell in Miami. He was selected on the NFL’s All-Decade Team and is a member of the San Diego Chargers Hall Of Fame.

This incident will no doubt lead to questions about the impact of concussions suffered by NFL players, given the numbers of suicides and attributable mental health injuries.

Seau is survived by a daughter and two sons.
